With A Great Lot Many Huge Help From Our Oh So Heavy And Marvelous FRIENDS!!
In which, Dave Seabury's new album is LIVE on Bandcamp for any and all to enjoy
ONE of the many delights in “working” (working? playing) PLAYING! on Dave Seabury’s new album has been, for this Berkeley Cat, learning a little about Mr. Seabury’s way of collaborating and creating. Dave and I first talked about collaborating on a song some years ago, and in June of this year, something clicked while I visited family and friends in Lübeck, Germany. Dave messaged me some music tracks, and as I explored the cobblestoned streets of the old town there, one of them became in my mind, the song, Cobblestones. I told Dave what I was thinking - prefaced of course with “We don’t have to do it this way - it’s your track - you tell me!” disclaiming heavily, to which Dave replied, “Go for it, I love this, don’t hold back!” And so encouraged, I recorded my vocal ideas, which Dave soon arranged, and voila. I love the result, and I am delighted to be a part of what turns out to be a full album of collaborations which Dave did with a rather amazing cast of cats.
With a Little Help From My Friends by Dave Seabury and Heavy Friends lives at Dave’s Bandcamp page, with the full credits for each of the collaborations, plus Dave’s liner notes, and of course, all of the music.
OH! We must discuss the title. I thought, when I first mentioned this on my PodCats a few weeks ago, that the album was called Little Help From My Friends. I thought that was the gag, like - a lot of help you are, friends! Not the case as it turns out, and Dave even told me he had considered calling the album With A Lot Of Help From My Friends. All of this and more was illuminated when I hosted Mr. Seabury on the subsequent episode of my aforementioned PodCats, for an outerview.
This fine Caturday morning, I have added the album to the Berkeley Cat Records website, thus officially foisting it in whatever way Berkeley Cats might call something official, which is of course, in none at all. (What?!) Try and follow along. As I write, an actual cat, actually named Berkeley, is attempting to override my editorial choices. But I remain undeterred. What was I saying? OH! Right, the RELEASE date, OF this fine furry album o’ catolaborations, had NOT been set, when Dave Seabury called me three days before Halloween and said! “Let’s put out Hell Hound and Hell Hound Variations for Halloween, because of course we must!” “Because of course, we MUST!” I echoed, and it was so, BUT! Due to technical challenges that could only be solved by a five-year old, the whole album went live instead of just the two preview tracks. To which, Dave and I issued a resounding chorus of “Fuck it! Okay fine!” Hence the release date was determined spontaneously, in much the same way that cats do absolutely anything. I could not be more pleased with the entire process. The album is getting some love (plays, shares, and sales!) and we do invite you to join us there for more fun on this fab, caterwauling journey.
Why do we make records? Because we want to. Why do we have a PodCats? Because we want to. Why is this a mewsletter? Because of course it is, Maybelline. More on this later, we think. Much love,
Your Berkeley Cat Records Cat-Herder In Presumption,
Eric Din
