Tuesday I'm In Love
Tuesday On My Mind, Hello Ruby Tuesday
What is it about Tuesday that I adore? From a literary and cultural perspective, what’s the Thing, there? Fridays and Saturdays, so glorified in pop music in pretty much every modern era. Mondays, vilified and dreaded, Wednesdays cursed with ridiculous spelling and sadly branded with that drab salute to mundanity, “Hump Day.” Sundays, celebrated with both literal and figuratively religious reverence, all these leaving the remaining Thursday and Tuesday out in the cold, symbolic of nothing. Thursday at least is Almost Friday, so Tuesday, orphaned, stands alone as a sort of static monument to normality.
Every day should be Tuesday, I therefor posit. I’m just gonna Tuesday all day every day. I strive for normalcy and it is a scarce resource in these times. Tuesday is my friend. Tuesday will be my revered religious holiday.
Ah, Normal? Who am I kidding? I have appealed to The Gods Of Normal, in at least one song -
and this yielded admittedly imperfect results. Perhaps the gods were busy.
I did testify that “Corruption is just Tuesday now,” in yet another stream of consciousness outburst -
- using poor Tuesday as a metaphor for Every Damn Day.
So, now once again, our hero, Tuesday, Tuesday the taken for granted, Tuesday the Unheralded, Tuesday the Unrecognized, Tuesday the stalwart, always there for us as we pick up the pieces from Monday and the weekend, Tuesday the inevitable, Tuesday the easily spelled, Tuesday made an appearance in one of my journal-y song-bleats.
Was I actually freaking out? Was it actually Tuesday? Hard to say, as it’s always Tuesday here, as I have decreed. It just seems to have softer edges than some of the more ballyhooed days of the week, and I pledge my allegiance to it. Even a stopped calendar tells the right day once a week. Y’all go on about the rest of the week, enjoy. You may find me at Tuesday.
Hmm, this isn’t the first time I’ve imagined a measure of time as a sort of Place. Another power-pop ska-fueled fracas, 1983, speaks of a land in which I’m 18 forever. There are aspects of truth to it.
This Place Isn’t Here Anymore on the other hand, might be more realistic in its account.
Journaling, journaling, caterwauling and recording, yes we do.
The old Scoop Nisker motto, “If You Don’t Like the News, Go Out and Make Some of Your Own,” has long influenced me. I’ll make a little good Mews rather than dwell on the big bad News, when possible.
Oh! Phenomenally, In Another Life has been getting airplay on some wonderful radio stations around the world, and we find this excellent Mews indeed. More on that later.
Meanwhile here are some lovely clouds as photographed mere days ago, floating gloriously above the Sacramento River in the very heart of California.
‘Til next time, we gallantly presume,
Eric Din
