In which Matte Martin releases a record, Eric Din prepares one, and Dave Seabury already did! Oh, and more actual cowbell. Really.
Exciting Berkeley Cat Records mews!
TODAY (that’s very soon) we enjoy the brand new release from our intrepid San Franciscan songwriter producer excatriot (sic) MATTE MARTIN! Behold:
Harkening back to a time when people were nice to each other, Matte Martin’s latest offering, “SELF-PORTRAIT,” finds our young troubadour unmistakably in love. Remember love? It still happens to people. Musically expanding his palette to include lush string and horn arrangements, but still deeply committed to The Electric Guitar and rock band sensibilities, Martin plants his flag on a mountain of gentle cinematic beauty, built of both original and cover songs, which we are thrilled and proud to share with you now. You may read the artist’s own liner notes, have a listen, and buy it here!→
LATER this Spring - we don’t know when, exactly - the new ERIC DIN (that would be me!) album, “CONTENT,” will be hurtled into the digital entertain-o-spaces. We are exuberant, exhilarated even. Here’s the cover..
..drawn as only Shannon Wheeler could. WHY do we not know when it’s coming out? Oh because it’s not finished yet, Bertolina. It’s mostly done but some finishing touches are in the works. I’m really enjoying the process and I must share an amusing fact, there is, in one spot, an instance of MORE COWBELL! Most of you know the famous SNL bit, where Blue Oyster Cult (or a semblance thereof) spreads their creative cowbelly wings at the behest of famous pants-putting-on producer theee Bruce Dickinson. So deeply engrained is the sketch in our public consciousness that to put a cowbell on 1-2-3-and-4 on a rock song (or any song?) might quickly be seen as a cliché, but WE, at Berkeley Cat Records, proudly do not care about all this and wave our cowbell 1-2-3-4 freak flag proudly. It’s just the right part in that spot, and nothing else will do there. Intrigued? Well, we certainly are, and, being cats, also curious, about how this will all land when the song leaps into the wilds.
NOW and forever, you can pick up DAVE SEABURY’s exquisite long-playing record album in glorious high-fidelity digifiddles, featuring guest appearances from many of his caterwauling compadres and compañeras, including yours truly. These critters:
If’n you missed it, there’s a fab episode of the Berkeley Cat Records PodCATS in which Mr. Dave Seabury himself and I discuss his album, the making of music in these peculiar times, some of the songs therein, and gigs, and tigers, and bears, oh my. You may eavesdrop our conversation here:
We Get Pod With A Little Help From Our Cats!
That’s about it for now. Stay warm n’ cozy in this impending Atmospheric River, and remember to nap often between fishy treats.
Cuddles,
