Today’s that magical once-a-month event when Bandcamp forgoes their revenue share and hands 100% of the loot over to artists on their platform. Every time I mention this, I also mention that their cut is reasonable on any day of the week, and they are (for now) the single most fair and good place for artists to host their material in the whole wide interworld, and this by a country mile.
That said! I DID just switch on the “purchase all” option for my now complete collection there, and I’d love to sell a few of these exciting bundles today! 4 albums, a bevy of singles, a few EPs, all for half-off the normal price. Click thru here and voila.
SINCE I’m on this page! The Smoking Section, dear old pals and a great Bay Area band from the late ‘80s, JUST published their album of previously unreleased funkygood tracks, also on Bandcamp, so I am sharing this link as well! I played the whole album yesterday, and it is such a great listen. Lost gems, unearthed, rescued from the oblivions of time by guitarist Damon Wood. UpTones fans will recognize the names of the horn players, Kenny Brooks, Adam Beach, and Scott Jensen! Indeed Smoking Section inherited our horn section right after our 1989 Gilman reunion gigs, and I saw ‘em live once with that lineup, supporting George Clinton and P-Funk at the Warfield(!!) That was amazing.
SPEAKING of UpTones, there’s two Bandcamps for us - one hosted by meself and Berkeley Cat Records, with our OUTBACK EP and a 1986 live show -
and one hosted by our pals at Liberation Hall - with our earliest recordings and the 415 Records re-release -
Purchase ANY of your recording artist friends and faves work at Bandcamp today if you feel the urge for some new music in yr life, AND the satisfaction of supporting artists directly. Bandcamp started this Fridays thing in early Covid as a way to help artists get through that dark tunnel when ALL the gigs were canceled. I COULD post more links here to other BCR bands and other favorites of mine, but that would be a deluge, AND I have a busy day ahead so I am TF out. Put some of your favorite Bandcamp links in the comments here if you like! And buy, buy buy.
Happy Friday and have a great Caturweekend,
